Why We Choose FOXess solar systems

There are many reasons to choose FoxESS solar installations over other products available in South Africa.

Here are some of the main advantages of FoxESS:

FoxESS is a global leader in developing inverter and energy storage solutions, with a strong background in research and innovation. FoxESS is part of a global conglomerate of renowned and recognised companies, such as Tsingshan Group, a Fortune500 company with over 56,000 employees and annual revenue in 2020 of 292.8 billion RMB

FoxESS offers an all-in-one hybrid solar system that integrates a 6kW inverter, 10.4kWh high voltage Li-ion battery, solar charge controllers, battery charger, UPS, LAN Port, and Solar DB Board into a pre-wired complete system. This makes the installation easier, faster, and more cost-efficient than traditional 48V solar systems that require separate components and wiring.

FoxESS uses high voltage Li-ion batteries that are more efficient, safer, and longer-lasting than 48V lead-acid or lithium batteries. The high voltage battery also reduces the current and cable losses, improving system performance and reliability.

FoxESS has an IP65 rating, which means it can withstand dust, water, and extreme weather conditions. It can be installed indoors or outdoors, depending on your preference and space availability.

FoxESS has a Wi-Fi module that allows you to connect the system to your home network and access the FoxCloud APP on your smartphone. You can use the APP to monitor the system performance, change settings, receive alerts, and update firmware.

FoxESS has a 10-year warranty for the inverter and a 10-year warranty for the battery, which shows the confidence and quality of the product.

FAQ's

This certification shows that the supplier complies with the relevant standards and safety guidelines for solar installation in South Africa. It also assures buyers that the supplier has the necessary skills and experience to do the job correctly. KTT Solar Solutions is a PV Green Card certified which means we follow the best practices and standards for solar installations in South Africa and can issue a PV Green Card certificate that verifies the quality and safety of the system.

Different municipalities have different regulations however the City of Cape Town has strict regulations which were tightened further from the 1st of October 2023. All solar photovoltaic (PV) and/or inverter battery back up systems connected to the wiring of a building must be registered with the City of Cape Town before installation. PV and/or inverter & battery back-up systems must also be installed by a competent installer who must provide a certificate of compliance for the installation as well as being signed off and commissioned by a duly qualified engineer. The City of Cape Town has provided an approved list of inverters which is available on their website – it is imperative that the homeowner ensures that the inverter that is being installed is on that list. Failure to comply with the City of Cape Town requirements will have costly repercussions for the homeowner. KTT Solar Solutions assists you with the entire compliance process.

It is important to inquire regarding the technical details of the solar system which you have been quoted on, such as the type, size, and efficiency of the solar panels, the capacity, safety standards and lifespan of the battery as well as the power and features of the inverter. You should also always ask about the warranty terms and conditions for each component of the solar system.  KTT Solar Solutions only install the highest quality product such as the FOX ESS inverters and batteries (which batteries meet the highest European safety requirements and surpass local standards) as well as JA Solar Panels. The detailed product catalogue can be found here which sets out warranty periods as well as all relevant specifications of the systems.

Unless you are a licensed electrician with experience in installing solar systems and have a thorough knowledge of all the legal requirements – we strongly recommend against attempting this.

Firstly, because the installation involves working in your DB Box (Distribution Box) and in terms of the law – “No person shall connect or permit the connection of any completed or partially completed electrical installation to the electricity supply unless it has been inspected and tested by an accredited person and a certificate of compliance has been issued by him / her.” (section 6 (3) of the Occupational Health and Safety Act).

We recommend you only use accredited and experienced solar installers to do the job. A solar expert has precise knowledge regarding all aspects of the solar and battery back-up system and will install the system specific to each customer’s specific location and energy requirements as well as complying with all the legal requirements.

KTT Solar Solutions offers the full turnkey solution inclusive of registered electricians, professional engineers and legal and compliance officers – all staff members are trained and experienced in their respective fields to ensure that each installation is carried out to the benefit of the homeowner and meets all legal and insurance requirements let alone being optimally operational.

The City of Cape Town requires that all SSEG installations are fully compliant with the relevant regulations, standards and specifications in order for the installation to be approved.

Below is a (non-exhaustive) list of the most relevant regulations, standards and specifications:

· Electricity Regulation Act 4 of 2006 and Electricity Regulation Amendment Act 28 of 2007
· South African Grid Codes (Distribution, Transmission and Renewable Power Plants)
· Occupational Health and Safety Act 85 of 1993
· City of Cape Town Electricity Supply By-law, 2010
· SANS 10142: All Parts
· SANS 474/NRS 057: Code of practice for electricity metering
· NRS 097 Series
· City of Cape Town Technical Standard for Interconnection of Embedded Generation (EEB 705).
· Guide for Municipalities on Processing Embedded Generator Applications 1 MW and Larger
· Embedded Generation Schematic Drawings

Most importantly – they must provide proof of registration as an electrical contractor with the Department of Labour – the letter from the Department of Labour will state whether the electrical contractor is employed by the company or self-employed.

Furthermore, ensure that the dates on the letter have not expired. There are many fly- by- night “solar and electrical installers” utilising third party Department of Labour letters and at the end of the day – any non-compliance issues will be for the homeowner’s responsibility, and this can have serious cost and risk implications for the homeowner.

It is very important that you contact your insurance company prior to installing your solar system / battery back-up system because each insurer has different regulations in their policies pertaining to such installations and the electrical requirements to be met. Another very important clause to check is that pertaining to surge protection in your board. Always ensure that you are covered from a product, risk, fire and compliance perspective.

Your solar installer should start with a free site assessment at your premises to evaluate your current energy set up and usage and to discuss your specific requirements according to energy and budget requirements and thereafter to be able to provide you with a free quotation based on such meeting and assessment. The relationship with your installer will extend to long after the installation completion and you should be able to form a long lasting and trusting relationship with your installer. At KTT Solar Solutions – each client is considered a valued member of the KTT Family and we strive to assist where best we can.

The South African Photovoltaic Industry Association (SAPVIA) is the non-profit organisation that represents and advocates for the solar photovoltaic (PV) industry in South Africa. It is responsible for promoting and supporting the growth and development of the solar PV market, as well as ensuring quality and safety standards for solar PV installations.

This is a quality assurance programme that was launched by SAPVIA in 2017 to certify solar PV installers and systems in South Africa. It is a voluntary programme that aims to improve the quality and safety of solar PV installations, as well as provide customers with a guarantee of workmanship and compliance.
